Christie’s jewellery auction reports ‘record’ participation

Christie’s first jewellery auction of 2022, Jewels Online, which ran between 24 January and 9 February achieved a total of $5,183,500 (£3,816,481), with 131% hammer above low estimate and 96% sold by lot. 

According to the auction house, the sale received “record” participation with the highest number of bidders for any New York Jewels online sale. There was also global participation with registered bidders from 28 countries.

Strong prices were achieved for diamonds, including the top lot of the sale, a diamond ring of 11.46 carats, which was offered without reserve and achieved $300,000 (£220,883). 

Further notable results include an emerald-cut diamond ring of 10.31 carats, which sold for $237,500 (£174,763); square emerald-cut diamond earrings of 5.02 and 5.02 carats, which realised $212,500 (£156,367); and a round brilliant-cut diamond ring of 5.21 carats, also offered without reserve, which achieved $150,000 (£110,377).
