New technology to combat diamond forgeries

Photoscribe Technologies, has secured a patent to ensure the proper identification of diamonds and gemstones, combating forgeries in the jewellery industry with security marks.

The company has made major hardware and software upgrades to its LMS-650 Cold Laser system to boost security and optimise quality, accuracy, and speed of the laser inscription process while streamlining diamond tracing.

The upgrades include a new, high-resolution camera that operates seamlessly with Photoscribe software, barcode marking and barcode reading capability allowing for unique and secure diamond identification, a completely redesigned Microsoft Windows 10-compatible user interface.

There is also an option for automatic image capture of inscribed diamonds with simultaneous generation of an accurate, searchable database.

The company said that market trends such as the growth of lab-created diamonds and the consumer’s interest in verified traceability, and supply chain integrity have made diamond inscription not just an added feature, “but a necessity”.
