Fabergé announces exclusive collaboration with Yorkshire jeweller

Fabergé is set to launch a Yorkshire Rose egg pendant at Easter, designed exclusively by Yorkshire jewellery designer Kay Bradley who runs the independent boutique jewellery business Bradley’s Jewellers in York. The piece features a hand-enamelled Yorkshire Rose with a yellow sapphire centre in homage to the region’s heritage. Bradley has designed the 18k gold luxury pendant in three colour variations – rose gold, white gold and yellow gold – and each has a diamond-set bail, a yellow sapphire on the clasp and a Yorkshire Rose hidden inside. The solid gold Fabergé ‘Essence Egg Pendant’ is reportedly inspired by Bradley’s ties to the city of York, and the range will be unveiled at a celebratory gala at Castle Howard in April. Peter Jackson launches Miracle on 34th Street ring

Jeweller Peter Jackson has launched a handcrafted replica of the Cartier ring used in the movie Miracle on 34th Street. The ring has a diamond cut in the shape of an emerald in the middle of the ring and two more diamonds on the shoulder of the ring. It is handset in platinum and replicates the design from the movie with a four claw setting that “accentuates” the centre diamond ring. NAJ President wins NAJ Chair’s Award

NAJ President, David Doyle, was the recipient of the second NAJ Chair’s Award, presented at this year’s Benevolent Society Christmas Charity Ball. The NAJ Chair’s Award is given to a business or individual in recognition of their ongoing commitment and dedicated service to the jewellery industry. Last year, the judging panel felt that The Goldsmiths Company, the Benevolent Society, and The Silversmiths Jewellers Charity should share the inaugural Award for their collaborative work in supporting the trade through Covid. This year, the independent judges unanimously agreed David Doyle’s career-long generosity and service deserved to be acknowledged. Laings announces £60m turnover in post-pandemic rebound

Retail jeweller Laings has announced a 62% increase in turnover, up to £60m, in its results for the year ended 31 May 2022. The company’s pre-tax profit was £5.4m up from £2.8m in 2021. Its gross margin also rose to 34% from 32.8%. The results were supported by “healthy growth” in its online sales and strategic moves such as the introduction of the first mono-brand showroom with OMEGA in Cardiff. Laings also invested £10m in its physical presence including showroom expansions in Cardiff and Southampton. It is also establishing a new workshop and head office in Glasgow. UK economy returns to growth in October

The UK economy returned to growth in October following the period of national mourning after the death of the Queen, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). UK GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.5% in October 2022, following a fall of 0.6% in September 2022. Looking at the broader picture, GDP fell by 0.3% in the three months to October 2022 compared with the three months to July 2022. The services sector grew by 0.6% in October 2022, after falling by 0.8% in September 2022; the largest contribution to the growth came from wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, which rose by 1.9% in the month. Output in consumer-facing services grew by 1.2% in October 2022, after falls of 1.7% in September 2022 and 1.6% in August 2022. Jeweller Boodles has announced its latest collection titled firework, taking inspiration from its namesake. The line is set to release on New Years Eve and was inspired by the “explosions of colour and energy” created fireworks in the night sky. Birmingham jeweller Fei Liu has sold a one of a kind brooch for a five-figure sum at auction. The brooch is entitled “Poppies in love” and “reimagines” the poppy flower in an abstract wearable form. Lab grown diamond specialist Lily Arkwright has completed a move to a new showroom and new office as it continues its growth. The company has relocated its head office to Towers Mansion within the Towers business park in Didsbury, South Manchester. Latest Cheffins Jewellery sale grosses £369,000

The last Cheffins Jewellery, Silver and Watches Sale of 2022 grossed over £369,000, with the auction seeing a 95% sale rate across the 531 lots offered. It took place on Thursday 24 November at the firm’s sale rooms in Cambridge. Leading the jewellery section was a pair of Burmese ruby and diamond ear pendants, which sold for £42,000 to a UK private buyer. These were followed by a pair of natural pearl and diamond ear pendants, which achieved £13,000 against an estimate of £4,000 – £6,000, when they were sold to a UK trade buyer. Other key lots included a Burmese ruby and diamond cluster ring which sold for £11,000 and a late 18th Century topaz flower brooch which made £1,900 against an estimate of £700 – £900. Lily & Roo reports record breaking November sales

Online jewellery retailer Lily and Roo has reported record-breaking sales in November, with an increase of over 50% YoY. The brand which was founded in 2018 by Brittany Preston, is known for its pearl, pavé and personalised jewellery. The jeweller recently launched a new solid gold and diamond Zodiac collection earlier in the month.
