Nightingale reopens showroom after refurbishment

Ethical jewellery brand Nightingale has announced the reopening of its showroom after it underwent a £20,000 refurbishment. Founded by husband and wife Stephen and Diane Nightingale in 2016, the duo originally set up shop in York’s Barleycorn Yard with the help of Ryan Atkins from direct-to-consumer specialists The Embarking Group, who is currently CEO for the brand. The showroom acts as a base where customers can meet face-to-face with Nightingale’s team of experts. Whilst the brand does offer a collection of “ready-made” rings, its most popular offering is reportedly its bespoke jewellery design service. Amongst its many offerings, Nightingale “pioneers” lab-grown diamonds, ethically mined diamonds and Fairtrade gold by only working with ethical suppliers, aiming to stem the flow of conflict diamonds. Atkins said: “When you buy from us, you join us in our mission to support better working conditions, better environmental practices and more transparent supply chains. “Whilst we’r

Diamond Rings Online That Make Elegant Heirloom Jewellery

Heirloom jewellery is valued for its beauty, acknowledged as an accomplishment and considered a symbol of love. It is a knot that binds a family together, representing rich familial ties and history. Passed from one generation to the other, heirloom jewellery is a meaningful piece or pieces passed down from one generation to another. These pieces are not just pieces crafted with gold, diamonds or other precious gemstones. Every piece narrates a unique story and is a multiverse that encapsulates memories and embodies the family pride and legacy.  Heirloom jewellery is generally designed elaborately and has a high price point. But what makes it priceless is its sentimental value. To have a beautiful ring, necklace, or earring passed on from a mother knowing that someday her great-granddaughter shall wear it is a sentiment that one cannot buy. It can only be felt through the warmest corners of the heart when a jewellery box full of heirloom pieces are passed from one generation to the nex

Want to put a ring on it? Let’s help you find the perfect design

There is a romantic candlelit dinner date under the stars, everything arranged to perfection… Roses-check, Ambience-check, Champagne-check, a classic melody of the guitar playing in the background, and just the two of you. All the elements for a wonderful, memorable proposal!  You have decided on nearly everything but haven’t selected an engagement ring yet. Whether you are getting down on one knee, or merely holding her hands and saying the words, you need that perfect ring to make it special.  Exchanging rings is not merely a universal ritual, but also has a reason behind it. The tradition originated in ancient Rome, where the groom would present the bride with an iron ring. This metal promised permanence and strength, for the relationship. It was worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, with the belief that this finger contained the vein of love or ‘vena amorist’.  Nowadays, choosing the correct engagement ring or wedding ring can become a tedious task with so many styles and des

Cartier aquamarine line bracelet fetches £52k at auction

An aquamarine line bracelet by Cartier has sold for £52,080 at Dix Noonan Webb in its Jewellery, Watches and Objects of Vertu auction in Mayfair this week. Dating from the 1940s, the bracelet was initially expected to fetch between £12,000-15,000. However, after “intense” bidding between two telephone bidders, the bracelet was sold to an overseas buyer. The bracelet is mounted in platinum, signed ‘Cartier’, and is set with approximately 45 carats of “beautifully matched” step-cut aquamarines.   Frances Noble, head of the jewellery department and associate director at Dix Noonan Webb, said: “From 1932 onwards, much of Cartier’s aquamarine jewellery was produced by the company’s London branch. During the economic depression of this period Cartier started using semi-precious stones such as aquamarine and topaz as a more affordable alternative for their clientele.  “Demand was so high for these gem-set creations that correspondence between the London and New York offices in 1936 refers

Alrosa sees Q3 profits reach £319m

Alrosa has reported pre-tax profits of RUB31.2bn (£31.6m) from RUB9.5bn (£96.3m) for the three-month period ending 30 September 2021.  Sales in Q3 hit their highest level since 2010 for the third quarter period, which Alrosa said is traditionally considered to be the “weakest” period of the year. In the coming years, the g

Younger consumer attitudes shift towards sustainability, research reveals

Consumer attitudes towards products are changing as younger generations value ethics and sustainability assurances, according to new research published by De Beers Group’s latest Diamond Insight ‘Flash’ Report. The report found that while consumers aged 50 and above cited quality factors as being their most important considerations relating to provenance of luxury goods, the 18 to 34 age cohort over-indexed on factors such as human rights and environmental impact. The research also found that consumers who valued information about a product’s provenance were prepared to pay a premium for this assurance, with affluent consumers being the most likely to pay a premium. The study also found that while essential health and safety items such as food, cars and skincare ranked most highly as categories for which consumers were concerned about provenance, 34% said they ‘care a lot’ about luxury goods. Bruce Cleaver, CEO, De Beers Group, said: “It’s clear from this research that while proven

These trinkets of commitment are a representation of love crafted with precious metal and radiant stones.  Considered a tradition that originated in Rome to indicate a man’s ownership of his wife, today, the engagement ring is a piece that represents the bond shared between two people before they say ‘I Do’. But buying an engagement ring is not always easy. Should you buy diamond engagement rings or should you choose other precious stones? If diamonds, should they be of emerald cut or princess? And the metal of the band, should it be yellow, rose or white gold. Or are you looking for the exclusiveness that Platinum offers? These are just a few of the questions that you should ask yourself whether you choose to surprise or team up with your lover to buy your engagement rings.  Considering how big an oc
